How to Cover Transom Windows
Often with transom windows, you may opt to keep them open with no window covering. But, in instances where you need additional privacy or the ability to deflect light, it may be necessary to cover your transom windows. First, you will want to decide if you will be inside or outside mounting the shades or blinds. Typically inside mount is favorable when possible. You also will want to consider if you are covering a window below it - in that case it is almost always preferable to use the same mounting technique for the top and bottom window to provide consistency. After you choose the mount type and marked down your width and height, you can look in the blind or shade category of interest to see the specifications offered. Generally what you are selecting for your window treatments for the windows will work just as well for your transom window. You will also need to decide it if is going to be operable or not. If you do plan to raise and lower it, you may choose to consider a motorized option, otherwise you may need a ladder nearby.

Finally, you can choose to add drapery panels around the window to cover the transom windows. This will allow for the transom to remain open with light flowing through and then use the drapery panels for privacy and light control when needed.
